Every minute 20 people leave everything behind to escape war, persecution or terror. 

Today on 20th June, World Refugee Day is celebrated to honour refugees every year by the UN.

Who is a Refugee?

Refugees are people who have fled war, violence, conflict or persecution and have crossed an international border to find safety in another country.

Do Refugees Have Any Rights?

The UN 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol include :

• The right to work

• The right to housing

• The right to education

• The right to public relief and assistance

• The right to freedom of religion

• The right to access the courts

• The right to freedom of movement within the territory

• The right to be issued identity and travel documents.

• The right not to be punished for illegal entry into the territory of a contracting State.

• The right not to be expelled, except under certain, strictly defined conditions

This protection may not be claimed by refugees who are reasonably regarded as a danger to the security of the country, or having been convicted of a particularly serious crime, are considered a danger to the community.

Which countries have the highest levels of migration?

82.4 MILLION Forcibly displaced people worldwide at the end of 2020 as a result of persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations or events seriously disturbing public order.

Turkey hosts the largest number of refugees, with nearly 3.7 million people. Colombia is second with 1.7 million, including Venezuelans displaced abroad (as of end-2020).

In 2017, unauthorized immigrants accounted for nearly one-in-five people living in Europe without EU or EFTA citizenship.

Germany had an estimated 1.0 million to 1.2 million unauthorized immigrants in 2017, while the UK had 800,000 to 1.2 million. Together, these two countries had about half of Europe’s total. Italy had an estimated 500,000 to 700,000 unauthorized immigrants, followed by France with 300,000 to 400,000.

Refugees Coming To Your Country is a Good Thing or a Bad Thing?

Look, the only reason why anybody would want to leave the country where they were born, the culture, the language and the people is because the situation of that country has become unbearable to sustainable development and human life as a whole.

As a host country we can either don’t accept them, start a new fight on the basis of colour, religion and language or as a host country we can accept them by providing a liveable life, giving equal status and making them a part of the economy of the country.

Any government that has opened its border to welcome refugees have different process to properly know their motives before mixing them in the society. As for illegal immigration shuting down border is not a solution but increased vigilance is, increased vigilance in order to understand the motives of refugees and not to send them back where the normal circumstances is one which cannot sustain a peaceful living.

I know you may suspect them of being destroyers of your religion and culture. But don’t you remember the rules of this world? The strong rule the weak, the weak cannot rule the strong. If you make the weak strong then he shall always repay you with kindness.
