Hate Crimes Against Asian Americans
•On Jan. 28, 84-year-old Vicha Ratanapakdee was shoved to the ground while taking his morning walk in San Francisco; just two days after the assault, he died. (Nineteen-year-old Antoine Watson has since been charged with and pleaded not guilty to murder and elder abuse.)
•A 64-year-old Vietnamese woman was robbed and assaulted in California.
•The attack on a 61-year-old Filipino man whose face was slashed with a box cutter in a New York City subway.
•A shooting spree at three spas in and around Atlanta on Tuesday night that left eight people dead, including six Asian women has left the Asian community in the USA on the spot. Widespread anger and fear is raging throughout the community as you read.
•An Asian American family commending a birthday at a café in Carmel, California, was castigated with bigoted slurs by a Trump-supporting tech leader.
•A few Asian Americans property holders say they’ve been mishandled with racial slurs and had rocks tossed at their homes.

What has happened that led to this situation?
Some have straightforwardly accused the anti-China way of talking of previous President Donald Trump, who frequently went on about the pandemic as the “China infection” or the “kung flu”
After this people irrespective of their ideology, became very hostile towards the Asian American community. They started harassing the Asians by calling coronavirus as the kung fu virus and ordering them to leave America.

A study published by the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism, showed that reported hate crimes against Asian Americans in US cities rose by 149% in 2020. 3,795 reports of hate incidents have been recorded between March 2020 and February 2021.
The FBI cautioned toward the beginning of the Covid flare-up in the US that it anticipated a flood in disdain of wrongdoings against those of Asian community.
How is the current administration tackling the situation?

President Joe Biden said “vicious hate crimes against Asian Americans who have been attacked, harassed, blamed and scapegoated” over the pandemic, which originated in China is unacceptable”.
He also said – “Too often, we are turned against one another.”
President Biden reported advances Tuesday to shield Asian Americans from segregation and rough assaults, including building up a Justice Department activity to address a rising number of racial hate crimes.
