Just days before West Bengal’s 17th state assembly election, Mamta Banerjee the chief minister has suffered a fracture in her left leg after filing nomination from her home constituency Nandigram. Right now she is recovering in a hospital. Will an ordeal in life be a benefit in the election? Whom will the citizens choose this time? Will it be the challengers BJP and Congress or the defending champion TMC?
Elections in recent years have been like a full-house, excitement-packed cricket match for Indians. The whole country remains insistent to know the outcome. 294 is an important number for any country governed by a constitution.
This election is like no other because of one man, Suvendu Adhikari. He was one of the key players in the formation of Trinamool Congress but recently joined BJP due to some dissent among his ex-party and is now contesting against Mamta Banerjee from Nandigram.

If we look at the money that is being pumped in the economy for the fiscal year 2021-2022 it is an overwhelming number of 29,96,88 crore (Net). Higher than the financial budget of Maharashtra, Delhi, and Tamil Nadu. The best thing about this budget is that it has allocated 50 crore to build 500 new schools.
But the TMC government has failed on the promise to stop infiltration from Bangladesh. In this era of xenophobia will the balance of power be shifted from TMC to the BJP or Congress on crucial matters such as inflation and crime? In 2018 West Bengal even topped the list of crimes committed by foreigners. Yes, 744 crimes registered at National-Crime-Records-Bureau were committed by foreigners.

However it would be injustice to not take into account the contribution of TMC for West Bengal since it came to power in 2011 after defeating Congress and CPI(M) one of the “longest elected communist party in a democratic country”.
Biggest takeaways of TMC’s government are –
- In the last 10 years, Bengal’s GDP has grown from ₹4.51 lakh crore to ₹6.9 lakh crore a surge of 53%
- Doctors in government hospitals have increased from 4,800 to 15,338. Nurses from 37,366 to 56,589. Hospital beds from 58,647 to 85,627
- Under “Kanyaahree scheme” more than 67.29 lakh girls have been provided financial support for education.
- Under the “Bangla Awas Yojna” more than 33.7 lakh house has been created for the rural population and under the “Nirmal Bangla scheme” more than 82.6 lakh toilets.
- 55.3% of the total cultivable land in Bengal is under assured irrigation more than country’s average of 20.4%
- A total of 1,18,128 km new rural road has been updated and created.
Keeping all this is in mind TMC has a very good chance of winning this election with ease. But is it enough for the people of West Bengal? Will it be enough to stop the winning wave of NDA? Stay tuned to find out!

It sounds like a complicated situation. I hope the citizens won’t suffer after the election.

That’s sounds like an irony! I have the chance to choose for myself yet I fear the outcome.
