How online dating is shaping traditional dating?

“Tinder, Bumble, OkCupid, Grindr, eharmony, Coffee Meets Bagel are some of the infamous dating apps around the world!”

Let’s be honest, we all are skeptical at first whether we should download Dating apps or not? Is it really worth it? Will I be able to build that connection in the virtual world as I expect to build in the real world?

Through this article I’ve tried to come up with answers to these questions as well as my brief experience on these apps.

Online dating apps have many, numerous individuals on it that utilize the application from various perspectives. Some need just hookups. Others just connections and others are uncertain and might want both.

How compelling Dating apps are for you will depend enormously on how tolerant you are with the application, and how long you’ll offer yourself to sort it out.

Is the level of satisfaction the same in the virtual world as it is in the real world?

The answer to this question depends on questions like how much impact you make on your match? Is she/he comfortable with you? Is she/he replying to your texts as quickly as you are replying to them? When are you planning to meet in the real world? How soon did you exchange numbers?

I should add here that unlike dating someone in the real world where you and your partner give full attention to each other(at least while you are with each other), you can never be sure of it on virtual dating apps. Who knows maybe your partner is texting the same message to several other people at the same time!

As a Gen.Z it is almost shameful for me to write against technology but even as Gen.Z I would love to build a physical connection at first and then probably connect with them on virtual platforms. 

You need to understand that with the advent of photo editing apps, it’s almost uncertain to tell that person in the virtual world will be the same as the person in the real world.

Many people have lost their self confidence because they were not getting enough matches or even one match on dating apps and someone whom they thought as less attractive had two to three matches just because they were more fluent with the photo editing apps.

I can’t speak for everyone but the age group 18-29 has understood this game quite well. Most people in this age group make profiles with a predetermined mindset to just have fun, and not take it seriously! Usually people in this age group try to find a friend, sexual partner or a partner whom they won’t marry or even date after the interest fades away or if there is a new match waiting for them.

Words of Wisdom for the Newcomers!

• Never think that the first match is your soulmate.

• Give it some time.

• Try to know them better and don’t jump the gun and start flirting!

• Don’t say “I love you” until you are completely sure of a positive reply. Even if the reply is negative don’t feel disheartened. There are many more potential matches waiting for you!

So if you are new in the arena of online dating my advice to you is to go easy, don’t take it way too seriously! Just go with the flow and who knows your first match maybe your soulmate after all!

When you are done with online dating and you didn’t achieve the desired goal try visiting the coffee shop, temples, discotheques, parks, malls, hospitals, anywhere outside the the four walls of your house and start by saying “hi” (with a smile of course!).
