
Kane Williamson(C) of New Zealand smashed the ball as if playing a one-day match and scored 52 runs off just 89 balls, including eight boundaries. Ross Taylor “finished the match in style” by hitting a four and winning the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) Final from India, at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
India had set a target of 139 runs and New Zealand reached 140 for two in 45.5 overs, with a stockpile of eight wickets. Kane Williamson held the front, Ross Taylor finished the match in style by hitting a four and scoring 47 off 100 balls.
While other bowlers were unable to secure the victory for India, Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets dismissing openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway. Earlier, India were bowled out for 170 runs in 73 overs, setting a 139-run target.
Rishabh Pant remained the top scorer for the Indian team securing 41 runs. Apart from Pant, all other batsmen were unable to cross the 20-run mark in their second innings, one could credit New Zealand bowlers for it.
The New Zealand bowlers seemed confident on Day 6 of the World Test Championship, with Kyle Jamieson taking the important wickets of Cheteshwar Pujara and captain Virat Kohli and switching the match in favour of the Kiwis. While Trent Boult took three wickets, Tim Southee took two and Neil Wagner also took one wicket of the Indian team.
